Monday, 9/29/14 - Homework
We are adding a component to our math program. To prepare them for the Common Core Tests, we are using some of the Engage New York program to supplement our Envision program. So today we reviewed the first part of lesson 3. We discussed and completed problems 1-3 in the Problem
Set (the front page), which is basically our classwork. Students are to complete the front page of the homework
Sheet (problems 1-3).
Here's the Classwork we completed in class. Students are encouraged to use this to help them complete the homework.

Island of the Blue Dolphins Homework
We changed the directions for this homework slightly. We discussed paradoxes in the chapter as a class since it was slightly more challenging. As the independent practice, students were given time in class to create a timeline of the events in the chapter. They need at least five. Many finished in class and so do not have homework for Island of the Blue Dolphins. If I checked it and approved it, it would have a smiley face. I'm looking for details that tell about the sea elephant fight and what happens to Karana.

Monday, 9/15 - Homework
Here is today's homework.
For the Island of the Blue Dolphins, students only have to do two more entries for a total of three. We did one example in class, and we'll add one more tomorrow in class after discussion. Be sure that the format for explaining the trait matches what we did in class. It should be "Because Karana (name something she says, thinks, does- textual evidence), she is (name the trait)."
I forgot to mention to the class to bring their autobiography flee maps and graphic organizers to class tomorrow. So if you read this, please encourage them to bring it to class so we can work on it together.Thursday, September 11, 2014
